Spotlight On: Governor Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge
Schnabel Engineering is proud to have contributed to the award-winning Governor Harry W. Nice Memorial/Senator Thomas “Mac” Middleton Bridge! This two-mile-long, state-of-the-art bridge spans the Potomac River, doubling traffic capacity and improving safety for travelers between Newburg, MD, and Dahlgren, VA.
Our team provided geotechnical engineering services, including deep foundation recommendations, subsurface exploration, and construction support. With 36-inch square and 66-inch diameter cylinder precast piles, the foundation ensures long-term durability and resilience.
Opening more than two months ahead of schedule in 2022, this large-scale, highly challenging project has since earned multiple Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) awards for excellence in engineering and design.
