Spillway Repair at Trap Pond

Following a spillway slab failure at Trap Pond (Laurel, DE), the Schnabel team was tasked with investigating, surveying, and assisting with design of an emergency repair. Schnabel worked with partners, Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (owner), Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) (owner/contracting agency), and Pennoni (survey and existing conditions visualization), to develop the existing conditions evaluation and repair approach.

Schnabel’s Geo Team leveraged conventional and 3D-GPR to identify potential voids beneath the spillway slabs and sidewalls. Project Geologist, Christopher Mayer, collected and processed data. This allowed the team to identify and map subterranean features including potential voids, without significant impacts to the structure.
