Schnabel and City of Saratoga Springs Recognized with Award for Dam Rehabilitation
The City of Saratoga Springs, NY and Schnabel Engineering have been honored with the 2025 New York State (NYS) Chapter Award from the American Public Works Association (APWA) for the Loughberry Lake Dam Rehabilitation Project in the “Structures: Small Cities/Rural Communities” category.
Our team attended the APWA NYS Chapter Conference to accept this award, which recognizes outstanding achievements and dedication in public works across the state.
Schnabel led a comprehensive rehabilitation design for the Loughberry Lake Dam – a 40-foot-high earthen embankment dam serving as the primary water supply for the City of Saratoga Springs.
Key upgrades included refurbished principal and auxiliary spillway conduits, a new principal spillway and water supply connection, a new energy dissipation structure for transitioning principal and auxiliary spillway discharges to the downstream channel, and rock-filled stabilization of the underwater upstream embankment slope.
These improvements bring the dam into compliance with New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) dam safety regulations and New York Codes, Rules, and Regulations Part 673.
