Smithfield Township FEMA Levee Certification
Amid scenic hills and valleys carved by several waterways, Smithfield Township lies along the Delaware River near the Pocono Mountains region of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The township’s levee system includes over a mile of earthen levees, pump stations, and interior drainage systems. Schnabel performed levee inspections and geotechnical evaluations of these features.
The work we performed was conducted to support FEMA certification of the Smithfield Township Levee System, which is required as part of FEMA’s Map Modernization Program to produce Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps. Documentation is required to demonstrate compliance with Title 44 of the Code of Federal Regulations 65.10 as providing protection against the 100-year storm event. Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc., acting as the township’s municipal engineer, provided this documentation with support from our services related to geotechnical engineering compliance criteria.
