Potomac Supply Environmental Compliance
Potomac Supply Corporation is a lumber processing and treatment facility located along the Potomac River in the Southern Yellow Pine wood basket of the southeastern U.S. Its operations require a Virginia Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (VPDES) permit, Virginia Port Authority (VPA) permit, and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP). Schnabel provides regulatory oversight and on-call services at this site.
We provide review of Virginia Department of Environmental Quality correspondence regarding site inspections, regulatory coordination and consultation, monitoring of site-specific regulatory checklists developed to meet regulatory submittals and requirements, overview of sampling chains of custody, assistance with permit renewals, preparation of VPDES discharge monitoring reports, and maintenance of graphical displays of stormwater laboratory analytical data. In addition, we routinely perform two semi-annual groundwater sampling events to support VPA permit compliance.
We prepared a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment at this industrial facility. Site activities have included wood treatment, wood storage, and millwork activities. Our assessment identified several environmental concerns including oil stains on concrete floors within onsite structures, past use of chromated copper arsenate for treating lumber, stagnated water and mold growth within onsite structures, evidence of underground storage tanks, and the presence of suspect lead-based paint. Accordingly, we developed various recommendations to mitigate these concerns.
