Little Falls Hydroelectric Development
An exemplar of industrial design around 1910, the Little Falls Hydroelectric Power Plant is located on the Spokane River, 25 miles northwest of Spokane. The hydroelectric power generation, which includes two dams separated by a rock outcrop between the Spillway Dam and the buttress section of the Forebay Dam. Schnabel assessed risks related to rehabilitating the Spillway Dam.
The Spillway Dam is a 59-foot-high, 597-foot-long cyclopean concrete gravity overflow spillway dam. Its 37-foot-high and 73-foot-long concrete gated spillway section has two 20-foot-wide by 24-foot-high Tainter gates. We provided a facilitator and subject matter expert for a risk assessment to assist the owner in their evaluations and decisions for rehabilitating the dam.
