Glade Run Lake Dam

Located in Butler County, PA, Glade Run Lake Dam is 730 feet long with a maximum height of 28.5 feet. The dam’s original spillway consisted of a concrete channel with a 70-foot-long ogee-type weir located at the left abutment. In addition to inadequate spillway capacity, the dam had a history of seepage and possible slope stability problems. They called on Schnabel to help rectify the issues.

Schnabel evaluated various upgrading alternatives and designed upgrading measures to allow the dam to safety pass the probable maximum flood (PMF). Rehabilitation was completed in 2017 and included the replacement of the spillway with a box inlet drop spillway in conjunction with the armoring of the embankment with articulating concrete blocks. Embankment seepage control features (filters and drains) were also installed.
