Baltimore Gas & Electric 230 kV Conastone to Northeast Rebuild
To help resolve transmission system congestion, and reduce associated congestion costs, Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE) embarked upon a 230 kV, 25-mile rebuild of transmission lines between their Conastone and Northwest substations. Schnabel assisted MFS Consulting Engineers and Power Engineers in evaluating 138 transmission structures.
We visually inspected and documented 138 of BGE’s lattice tower, steel pole, and dead-end structures. Our visual observations included foundation inspections such as spalling, cracking, pitting, and concrete erosion. We also visually inspected the transmission structures and hardware for damages and anomalies such as bending, cracking, burnouts, and corrosion. We logged and photographed the observed damages and anomalies for evaluation by Power Engineers, who developed recommendations for the repair or replacement of the defective members.
