Project Spotlight: Old Washington Highway Sewer and Waterline Improvements
In Glen Allen, Virginia, Schnabel Engineering provided geotechnical and trenchless engineering services for the Old Washington Highway Sewer and Waterline Improvements project—a critical infrastructure upgrade that includes over 5,000 linear feet of new gravity sewer line and 4,000 linear feet of new water main.
A highlight of the project was the microtunnel installation beneath Interstate 295, where crews installed an 18-inch sewer line within a 59-inch high strength reinforced concrete jacking pipe—all while keeping traffic moving above.
Schnabel’s Geotechnical and Tunnel and Underground teams worked together to perform subsurface exploration, laboratory testing, and trenchless method analyses to support safe and efficient construction.
