Tom Fitzgerald is the Western Regional Manager for the Dam Engineering Business Unit at Schnabel supporting offices in Seattle, Washington; Boise, Idaho; and Denver and Longmont, Colorado. He is responsible for managing business operations in the western region, creating strategies for continued growth in the west, and coordinating with other business units and regions to facilitate the efficient use of resources. He also serves on the firm’s Board of Directors.

Tom’s technical expertise applies to the evaluation and rehabilitation of existing earth and concrete dams with various deficiencies; the planning, design, and permitting of new dams; and the design of conduits, canals, spillways, and other hydraulic structures. He is an accomplished Project Manager with a proven track record of delivering challenging projects on time and on budget. His success comes from strong communication and organizational skills and his broad base of dam safety and design experience. Tom can effectively manage technical staff because of his diverse technical background including civil, geotechnical, hydrologic and hydraulic, and structural analyses.

Tom has extensive experience working on projects under FERC regulatory review. He is a FERC-approved Independent Consultant (IC) and has been the IC on over 15 Part 12D inspections throughout the United States in the last 10 years. He is an approved FERC Potential Failure Mode Analysis (PFMA) Facilitator and has participated and led several Construction PFMA sessions in the past few years. He has also participated in several dam safety risk assessments, asset risk, and capital planning projects for dams and other infrastructure.
