Sharon L. Krock, SPWS, F.SAME

Federal Market Pursuit Director / Senior Vice President
Chadds Ford, PA

Sharon Krock’s first job out of college involved inspecting project sites for the Georgia Department of Transportation. From there, she joined Schnabel – and in the 20 years since then, this wetland expert has had a major positive impact on both our firm and our environment. Now the leader of our Chadds Ford branch and the National President of the Society of American Military Engineers, Sharon draws on her background in environmental stewardship, management, and the engineering industry, to lead and guide teams and preserve environmental integrity.

With expertise in ecology, plant taxonomy, and community dynamics, Sharon has extensive experience permitting projects throughout the eastern and southern United States. In her technical role as a scientist, she performs wetland delineations, and coordinates permitting requirements with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), state environmental agencies, historic preservation offices, and conservation districts. As a liaison between regulatory agencies, our design engineers, and our clients, Sharon is instrumental in alternative analyses, the development of environmental impact statements, and the assessment of potential impacts to existing habitats.

Sharon also provides consulting services  both internally to our engineers and to external clients to avoid and/or minimize wetland and water impacts. When mitigation is required, she designed expanded and created wetlands, stream relocations, and planting plans to restore disturbed wetland and water habitats.

In addition, Sharon develops business for Schnabel, focusing on the Federal marketplace and acts as one of Schnabel’s leads for the firm’s Mentor-Protégé Agreements with Small Business protégés. . In 2020, she became the leader of our Philadelphia area office, which includes all three of our business units: dam/levee engineering, geotechnical engineering, and tunnel engineering.

Sharon’s involvement in the field of wetland science and permitting, and the engineering community is nationally recognized. She is Vice-Chair of the United States Society on Dams (USSD) Bulletin Editorial committee, and has been very involved  with the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) for more than 20 years. Recognizing the importance of local involvement as well, she is a member and Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Chester County Solid Waste Authority and serves as the Host Municipality Inspector for the landfill that resides in her township.
