
Michael C. Canino, PE
Executive Vice President Michael Canino is responsible for the growth and strategic direction of Schnabel’s Dam and Levee Engineering Business Unit. In this role, he leads over 220 engineers, scientists, and other specialists who are located in 12 Schnabel offices. Michael also leads a management team that oversees many aspects of our firm’s daily operations, as he is engaged in client development, project staffing, subcontractor procurement and negotiations, the development and negotiation of cost proposals, and the technical management and quality assurance of large, complex contracts and projects.
With more than 30 years of professional experience, Michael brings a high level of quality assurance and technical expertise to numerous geotechnical, dam, levee, and design projects. He has served as the project manager, task leader, or senior reviewer on more than 200 projects, including civil works projects, embankment and concrete dams, levees, waterfront structures, foundations, retaining walls, and ground improvement projects.
Michael’s experience includes contract management on multiple U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Reclamation, and National Resource Conservation Service on-call type contracts for a variety of dam, levee, and risk assignments around the country, as well as managing contracts for numerous non-federal clients throughout the U.S.
Michael is an active member of ASCE, ASDSO, and USSD, where he actively serves on the Embankment Dams Committee. He is a certified Aresty Scholar (with a focus on Strategy and Innovation), a designation given by The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, Aresty Institute of Executive Education. He has served on Schnabel’s Board of Directors for 12 years, and was the Chairman of the Board from 2019 to 2022. He has also served as Schnabel’s Managing Board representative on a host of Joint-Venture-led contracts since 2010.
