As National Practice Leader for Dams, Greg Paxson is responsible for the technical direction of Schnabel’s dam engineering practice. He has expertise in the evaluation of and modifications to existing dams and in the design of new dams. Through his career, he has been involved in all aspects of dam engineering, with specific expertise in hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analyses, hydraulic structures, dam safety, and risk analysis, with a focus on dam rehabilitation design. He has performed and led assessments, evaluations, analyses, and design for more than 100 dams.
Greg enjoys contributing to the dam engineering industry and interacting with his peers through several professional organizations. In 2020, he completed a two-year term as the Chair of the Advisory Committee for the Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO), where he served as the private sector advisor to the ASDSO Board of Directors. He recently became the Chair of the ASDSO Technical Journal Committee, where he leads the committee in the selection and review of articles for the Journal of Dam Safety. Greg is also the Chair of the United States Society on Dams (USSD) Committee on Hydraulics and Hydrology and is the United States’ delegate to the Hydraulics of Dams Committee of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD). He has authored or co-authored more than 40 technical papers, mostly on dam rehabilitation and H&H.
