Nafis Bin Masud Published in Transportation Infrastructure Geotechnology

We’re thrilled to announce that Nafis Bin Masud, Ph.D. has published his twelfth PhD paper in the journal Transportation Infrastructure Geotechnology!

The paper, titled “Improved Wave Equation Analysis and Economic Impact Studies for Driven Steel Piles in Rock-Based Intermediate Geomaterials (R-IGMs),” tackles the long-standing challenge of accurately predicting pile performance in R-IGMs using the Wave Equation Analysis of Pile Driving (WEAP). Traditionally, WEAP relies on Smith parameters developed for soils, which are not well-suited for IGMs.

In this study, Nafis and his colleagues developed enhanced WEAP and Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) procedures using new static analysis methods and back-calculated dynamic parameters tailored specifically to R-IGMs.

Congratulations Nafis and a special thanks to Dr. Shaun Wulff and Harish Kalauni, for their valuable contributions, and to Dr. Kam Ng for his guidance and support as Nafis’ advisor.
