I-95 Emergency Bridge Replacement Named Project of the Year
Schnabel Engineering congratulates the project team on the Emergency Bridge Replacement on I-95 in Philadelphia being named Project of the Year – Under $30M by the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) at the 2025 National Conference.
When a devastating tanker truck fire caused the collapse of a section of I-95—one of the busiest interstates in the country—Schnabel’s geostructural team was called in to help restore traffic flow as quickly and safely as possible.
In close coordination with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Buckley & Company, Inc., and Aero Aggregates of North America, our team designed a temporary mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) wall using wire baskets and ultra-lightweight foamed glass aggregate made from recycled glass. The complete design was delivered in just one business day, enabling around-the-clock construction that allowed I-95 to reopen in only 12 days.
