Citizens Reservoir Wins Two Project of the Year Awards
Congratulations to Citizens Energy Group, Arcadis, and F.A. Wilhelm Construction Company for being awarded the Indy Chamber Monumental Project of the Year and the American Society of Civil Engineers (Indiana Section) 2020 Project of the Year award for the Citizens Reservoir project. The Monumental Awards are one of the many ways in which the Indy Chamber showcases the economic development growth of the Indy region. On September 29, Associate, Matthew Goff represented Schnabel Engineering at the awards ceremony at Tibbs Drive-In in Indianapolis. The American Society of Civil Engineers (Indiana Section) 2020 Project of the Year award recognizes the most outstanding or unique project built in Indiana and completed during the current or past year.

The Citizens Reservoir project was developed by Citizens Energy Group to ensure adequate water supply to accommodate population and regional economic growth over the next 20 years at a fraction of the cost of building a conventional reservoir. The reservoir is vital to helping the region surmount serious drought conditions that caused mandatory water restrictions in the past.
As the geotechnical and tunnel Engineer of Record, Schnabel Engineering was instrumental in evaluating design alternatives to help the Citizen’s Energy Group select a cost-effective approach. The selected alternative incorporated key design elements including a raw water intake tunnel and shaft, pump station tunnel and shafts, raw water transmission main, access road, rock and soil slope stabilization of the quarry high-walls and rim, and site perimeter fencing.
