We welcome new board members Paul E. Diggs, PE, (Richmond) and Maureen Schumacher of Kimberly-Clark Professional in Atlanta to our 2017 board of directors. Returning board members are Schnabel CEO Walt Rabe; principal and 2016-2017 board chair Allen Cadden; Mike Canino, president of the dams and levees business unit; Preston Frey, president of the geotechnical business unit; Brian Banks, principal and Rockville branch leader; Joe Monroe, principal and Alpharetta branch leader; and Jack Palmer, retired president and CEO of Kleinschmidt.
Paul began his career at Schnabel fresh out of UVA in 1984. Since then he has served in various roles, among them field engineer, geotechnical project engineer and ESOP trustee. In 2008 he became branch leader for the Richmond office, and then took on oversight of Newport News in 2011 and Charlottesville in 2013.
He has been active in ACEC Virginia for several years. After completing his tenure as president in June, he will segue to the role of national director. Paul is also active with the Urban Land Institute and Henrico Business Leaders. He’s been a Rotary member since 1998 and is fulfilling a civic commitment to his hometown by serving as an elected member of the school board since 2010. A licensed Professional Engineer in Virginia and North Carolina, Paul graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.S. in civil engineering.
Maureen Schumacher is the company’s first director from outside of the design and construction industry. With 25 years of experience in delivering growth and transformational strategies utilizing technology, big data, and digital platforms, she brings a fresh perspective to the boardroom. Known for her achievements at GE Capital, Google, and the New York Stock Exchange, Maureen has a record of driving strategic changes in both large organizations and high-growth, entrepreneurial companies.
A graduate of Penn State University with a B.S. in business administration and management, Maureen went on to earn an MBA from University of West Florida College of Business, and a doctorate of business administration from Georgia State University.
