We have a broad range of subsurface investigation tools
in our toolbox.

Our experienced engineers and geologists select the appropriate subsurface investigation techniques for the site and your project. The exploration technique used must be efficient, reliable, and suitable for the geology and engineering needs. Site investigation techniques we employ include:

  • Drilling and sampling of test borings, including sonic drilling
  • In situ Cone Penetrometer (CPT), Dilatometer (DMT), and Pressuremeter testing
  • Air rotary and percussion drilling soundings
  • Test pits and trenches
  • Geophysical techniques
  • Vibracore drilling and sampling for offshore work

Instrumentation and monitoring also are important parts of many geotechnical projects. When appropriate, our staff installs instrumentation to measure in situ slope movements, settlement, pore pressures and groundwater levels, and temperature variation, ground-borne vibrations, and tilting of structures. Where dewatering is critical to a project, full scale pumping tests and hydrogeologic analysis can be provided.
