We apply environmentally sensitive, sustainable, green design principles as we provide creative solutions to our clients. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) rating system of the U.S. Green Building Council promotes measurable standards for sustainable design. The LEED® green building rating system is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high-performance, environmentally sensitive projects, giving you the tools you need to have an immediate and measurable impact on your project's performance, through beneficial use and recycling in site development. Our LEED® accredited professionals offer many services that will contribute to achieving your goals for LEED® certification of your project. Through the LEED® process, your project may receive environmental and design awards, and you may gain recognition, potential credits, significant good will, and positive public relations. This green approach also may help ease/streamline the permitting and project approval process with some agencies.
Schnabel supports sustainable design and contributes to LEED® credit in many ways, including the following:
- Sustainable Geotechnics including reuse and recovery of construction demolition debris
- Testing dredge spoil for reuse and amending with recycled material
- Evaluation of facility placement considering subsurface conditions to minimize foundation cost
- Underpinning of existing foundations to increase strength to support additional loads
- Use of Geophysics to estimate subsurface conditions limiting disturbance to site soils and vegetation
- Design of Stormwater management ponds to treat site runoff
- Consideration of alternatives for facility siting in order to avoid high quality habitats, protected species, difficult geology/subsurface conditions, and wetlands
