Project Overview
As part of our Indefinite Delivery Contract with the USACE Philadelphia District for Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Services, Schnabel provided beneficial use studies involving the blending of crushed glass (CG) from Philadelphia curbside collection with dredged material (DM) from Fort Mifflin Confined Disposal Facilities (CDFs). Schnabel investigated the feasibility of using the CG-DM blends as landscaping, embankment, and structural fill materials.

Schnabel developed laboratory and field research programs to demonstrate the constructability advantages of this beneficial reuse of CG-DM blends, and spearheaded subsequent outreach and publications for USACE.
