Project Overview
The eight-story York County Judicial Center was constructed over a site previously occupied by a gas station. Portions of the backfill for the basement employed a low-permeability clay to minimize the potential for movement of any remaining contaminants in the soil. Schnabel provided the quality control (QC) for the Owner on this project. Items observed and tested included conventional concrete, lightweight fiber-reinforced concrete, structural steel bolted and welded connections, earthfill placement for backfill, Sprayed Fire Resistive Materials (SFRM), precast panel connections, and masonry grout and mortar. Fabrication shop visits were also conducted on a routine basis to observe and test the shop welded connections. Ultrasonic and radiographic non-destructive evaluation (NDE) testing was conducted on welds in the field and at the structural steel fabrication shop. Schnabel also performed specialized testing on concrete cores and structural steel beams.
Schnabel met the client’s demanding schedule by assigning up to three people to the project, providing coverage for up to 17 hours a day for concrete placement, SFRM installation, and structural steel observation and testing.
