Project Overview
The Five Tower Bridge office building project has three bridges across railroad tracks, is built atop three levels of parking to raise it out of the floodplain and reach the bridge grade, and sits on a long thin lot while maintaining a floor plate that maximizes efficiency. The development team, led by Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill, overcame major challenges on the properties, including blight, railroad tracks, Old and New Fayette Street Bridge, a river, and unusual site dimensions; however, they still delivered buildings of unsurpassed design integrity.

Schnabel contributed to the success of this project by providing design recommendations for auger cast piles for the office building and parking garage located adjacent to the Schuylkill River. Construction phase services included observation of pile installation; grout sampling and testing; structural steel erection, including Non Destructive Testing (NDT) of field and shop welds; cast-in-place concrete sampling and testing; earth fill placement observation and testing; fireproofing density; thickness and adhesion testing; asphalt placement observation and testing; and pre-cast panel connection observation and testing, including NDT on welded clips. Additional consulting was provided after the project was completed on window washer clips, concrete appearances issues, and asphalt paving concerns.
