Project Overview
Schnabel provided site characterization and remedial design for contamination for the new Washington Nationals Major League Baseball Stadium. The site is composed of several parcels that have been used for industrial, commercial, and residential purposes since the 1700s. The site has been contaminated by various petroleum hydrocarbons, volatile organic compounds, and lead, and leaking UST sites are known to have had significant petroleum releases in the past.

Schnabel’s responsibilities included overall coordination of environmental regulatory programs and issues including Hazardous Waste Management; Groundwater, Stormwater, and Surface Water Quality; and UST Management. Schnabel performed additional site characterization to delineate contamination and developed a Cleanup Action Plan (CAP).

Additionally, in order to provide direction for the onsite responsibilities of the environmental contractor during excavation, Schnabel prepared two regulatory-based guidance documents for the project. Schnabel also provided on-site construction support to monitor environmental compliance. Our management personnel played key administrative and technical advisory roles on this highly visible project.
