The Blacksburg, VA office of Schnabel Engineering Inc. is looking for a self-motivated Staff Geotechnical Engineer with a desire to build their knowledge of soil mechanics and grow their skills in task management, while working as a team leader on small to medium-sized tasks.
Typical activities in the position include implementing laboratory and subsurface exploration programs, interpreting data, performing calculations, reporting, setting and monitoring team goals, and other duties as assigned.
The Staff Geotechnical Engineer will maintain close relationships with internal clients, support on-going quality control/assurance programs, and contribute to continuous improvement of the operation.
Blacksburg is Virginia’s largest town, and consistently ranks among the best places to live in the nation. Located in the Appalachian mountains of southwest Virginia, the area abounds with outdoor leisure activities and is the home of Virginia Tech.

| Requirements: |
Qualifications for the position include a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering, undergraduate soil mechanics class, successfully passed the FE exam or have E.I.T. certification, 0 to 3 years experience in geotechnical engineering (in design and construction), and excellent oral and written communication skills. Masters Degree in Geotechnical Engineering is preferred; background in soil mechanics laboratory testing is a plus.
Candidates must have a positive attitude, the ability to set and meet schedules, be adaptable to change, and work cooperatively with peers, staff, and management.
Ability to meet some minimum physical requirements.
